The Grote or Sint-Nicolaaskerk can be visited during the entire summer season from May to August from Tuesday to Saturday from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM. The church tower can also be climbed during that period. Climbers of the tower will see their efforts rewarded with a fantastic view of Elburg, Lake Veluwe and the Veluwe.

The Grote or Sint-Nicolaaskerk can be visited during the entire summer season from May to August from Tuesday to Saturday from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM. In 1397, the bishop of Utrecht gave permission to build a parish church in the then newly built town of Elburg. The church was built in the Gothic style in the northeast corner of the city. Construction was finished in the fifteenth century. The church was dedicated to Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors and fishermen. The tower consists of a plinth surmounted by three sections, which have three recesses in pointed arches on each side. There is no spire on the tower. It was lost in a lightning strike in 1693. A lack of money prevented the spire from ever being rebuilt.
The beautiful Quellhors organ from 1825 occupies a prominent place in the church. The church was thoroughly restored between 1971 and 1975. During this restoration, several special murals from 1607 – 1610 emerged beneath the lime layers. The brass crowns in the nave date from the seventeenth century. After Elburg was closed off from open waters in 1956, fisherman Wichert Jansen donated a model of the botter EB 32 to the church guardianship. This flounder hangs on the southern wall of the nave, as a symbol of the significance of fishing for Elburg.
