The story of the Veluwerandmeren

The Veluwerandmeren are four lakes that were created in the 1950s after the reclamation of part of the IJsselmeer. From southwest to northeast this concerns the Nuldernauw, the Wolderwijd, the Veluwemeer and the Drontermeer. Elburg is located exactly on the border of the Veluwemeer and the Drontermeer between Harderwijk and Kampen.
Veluwemeer
The Veluwemeer, with an area of 32.5 km, offers numerous opportunities for water sports enthusiasts. You can swim, sail, kite, windsurf here, or just relax on the beach. There are several holiday parks and campsites, such as the Veluwe Strandbad campsite, which is located close to the Elburg fortress. Here you will also find Lifetime-Sport, which rents everything for a sporty day on the water. Not yet an experienced water sports enthusiast? You can also take lessons here!
Time for a snack and a drink? You do that at Beachclub NU. At this trendy beach bar you immediately get a relaxed holiday feeling and enjoy the panoramic view over the Veluwemeer.
A tour around the Veluwemeer by bike is of course also possible. During the season it is possible to sail across the lake with the bicycle ferry. Check www. Visit-elburg.nl for current sailing times.
Drontermeer
The Drontermeer, between Elburg and Kampen, with an area of 4.7 km, is narrow and very shallow outside the shipping channel. The new Reeves lock and the associated Reevedam were put into use in 2023. There are three islands in the lake, De Eekt where you can recreate and Abbert and Reeve which are intended for nature. Just before the Reevesluis you will find At Sea, a restaurant with a campsite on the beach, where you can have a nice lunch, dinner or just a cup of coffee. They also rent out electric boats, but you can also moor your own boat at the jetty.
You can also enjoy it here by bike. Cycle the Reevediep route, available at VVV Elburg, and discover the special landscape separating Flevoland and Gelderland.
Elburg on the water
The beautiful old harbor of Elburg is conveniently located near the historic fortress. Jachtcenter Elburg, located on the harbor canal, offers storage, maintenance and repairs. Next to the harbor office you will find Zuiderzee Boat Rental. Rent your own sloop and enjoy a day on the Randmeren!
